Airport Tips
  • carry-on luggage needs to be within 14" x 9" x 22". And they are quite strict about it especially if you look Asian!
  • liquid, gel, or aerosol in carry-on luggage needs to be in 100ml or smaller bottles and then all put into a 1-liter or smaller resealable clear plastic bag. There are plastic bags available for you to use at check-in area (as of 2007.5.20). more
  • luggage lockers - there are luggage lockers of 3 different sizes in the hallway between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 (the hallway near the exit to the airport buses). You can leave your luggage there for up to 30 days. The cost is based on the duration of usage. There is a price for the initial 4 hours and then another price for 12 hour increments. (2007.12.20) There's also a "Left Baggage" service where you can leave your baggage for a fee. It is on the arrival level in a far corner well hidden behind some escalators more.

  • Hong Kong airport check-in aislescheck-in time - the check-in counter closes 40 minutes before the flight (or even earlier). So beware!
  • city check-in is available for most airlines at the Hong Kong station of the Airport Express. But this is available only to those travelling by the Airport Express train to the airport. And you have to be there at least one and a half hours before your flight time. And then there are airlines that are supposed to have people there and don't. I had a bad experience with Korean Airlines. So double-check!
  • terminal 2 - it is newer and smaller. All gates 1-80 are the same ones reachable from terminal 1 (2007.5.25). more
