A 6-Hour Tour of Hong Kong

Above: The Central district on Hong Kong Island.

You have just 6 hours in Hong Kong? Here is a sample itinerary touring some key attractions that you can follow on your own.

  1. get out of the plane and through immigrations and customs (takes about 1 hour)
  2. take Airport Express to Hong Kong station (see airport transportation) (takes about 1/2 hour)
  3. take open-top bus to Peak Tram station (takes about 1/2 hour, wating incl.)
  4. ride Peak Tram up to the Victoria Peak (takes about 1/2 hour, but sometimes the line could be very long and may take 1.5 hours.)
  5. look around and have a meal there (allow about 1.5 hours)
  6. take Peak Tram down (takes about 1/2 hour, waiting incl.)
  7. ride open-top bus back to Star Ferry pier in Central (takes about 20 minutes, wating incl.)
  8. ride Star Ferry to Tsim Sha Tsui (takes about 15 minutes, wating incl.)
  9. walk on Tsim Sha Tsui promenade (allow about 45 minutes)
  10. ride Star Ferry back to Central (takes about 15 minutes, wating incl.)
  11. ride the Airport Express back to the airport from the "Hong Kong" station (takes about 1/2 hour)
  12. go through immigrations ( allow 1/2 hour)
  13. shop around inside restricted area of the airport before boarding (if time permits)

A word of caution: all the times given are very approximate. Besides, there is walking (the speed of which depends on the individual) and waiting involved; so watch your time so that you don't miss your flight. Something to encourage you not to miss your flight: hotel rooms in Hong Kong are very expensive especially when you don't have advance booking.
