Whampoa

Whampoa is a residential area built on an old shipyard site.

The department store in a ship on dry land

This is a building in the shape of a ship, probably to commemorate the shipyard. There is a department store inside and maybe also a cinema. The boat can even be seen from satellites! Well, what else can't?

A few years ago, a new restaurant complex named Whampoa Guormet Place was opened right across the street from the boat. But it is nothing ordinary. It was opened by a food conosiour, gathering some 10 of the best local restaurants that he had found. Be prepared to wait more than a few minutes for a table!

Since it is not close to an MTR station, you will need to get there by mini-bus or a taxi. The green mini-bus (i.e. "maxi-cab") going to Whampoa from Tsim Sha Tsui (close to the Salisbury YMCA) passes right by it.
