A
method to study the Bible on your own without a study-guide.
In this method you go through three steps - observations,
interpretations, and applications.
In
the chapter titled "The Value of Observation"
in his book "Living by the Book" (Moody), author
and seminary professor Dr. Henricks wrote:
"Have
you ever gone to a Bible study or heard a message preached
in a local church on a passage that you have read and
studied - maybe even taught - but afterward you wondered,
'Are we studying the same passage?' You were forced
to ask, 'Why can that person see more than I do? Why
has he gotten so much more out of the text?'
"The
difference between you is the difference that Sherlock
Holmes was fond of pointing out: 'You see, but you do
not observe.'"
But
it is not for everybody. You need to exercise patience,
time, and self-discipline.
(If you are a brand
new believer, it is probably better to wait till later
to study the Bible using this method as well.)
But the reward is seeing new appreciation,
insights, and convictions from God's word like you never
had before!
If
you have not heard of this method, you can find out more
from either of these two books:
- Living
by the Book (by
Howard Henricks & William Hendricks)
- The
Joy of Discovery (by
Oletta Wald).
