Hong Kong Wildlife

Above: a lizard seen in the New Territories where there are green hills and trees.

You may have seen photos of urban Hong Kong and figure that there is nothing but concrete and glass. Actually, 75% of Hong Kong is not developed and there is some wildlife - well, not too wild, just not domesticated. Snakes are probably the most common when it comes to dangerous ones, and some of them are very poisonous. There are also wild boars, though they are not as often seen.

Close to the northern border of Hong Kong is an area called Mai Po which is famous for being a sanctuary for migratory birds.
